Raton High School has been working hard during the first weeks of school. The Freshmen Academy is working as designed and students like having a home upstairs. They have connected with their teachers and are doing well. The athletic teams are practicing hard and playing well and remain in the hunt for district titles. Our golf team has been playing winning the individual title at our home match on the girls side.
Teachers are working to start to unpack the NM Common Core Standards that will become the basis for our curriculum and instruction. These are standards that are focused on college and career readiness for students. Teachers have been observed multiple times and are doing their best to provide high quality and rigorous instruction. The new observation protocol called NM Teach is being used with all staff.
Closed campus for freshmen is working for the most part. A few students have been caught leaving but the class is following this standard on the larger scale.
Homecoming went very well with all of the activities designed to bring the students together as a student body. The football, volleyball, and golf teams all won their homecoming events. We were thrilled to see the Class of 1973 come back for the events.
The year is well underway and students and staff are working together to make it a great year.
